Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ Questions
Mastercard Local ('the Program') is a loyalty program brought to you by Mastercard that offers a range of cash back and coupon offers to eligible Mastercard® credit, debit and prepaid Cardholders ('Cardholders').
Mastercard Local is not an automatic benefit and requires your issuing local bank or credit union to choose to participate in the program. You are encouraged to visit local.mastercard.com or contact your local bank or credit union to see if your Mastercard credit, debit or prepaid card is eligible for the program.
Yes, you must visit the Mastercard Local website at local.mastercard.com and create an account to participate. You will be asked to provide your First Name, Last Name, Email Address and a Password. This is a one-time registration, after which you will have access to view all the offers.
In addition, when you activate your first card-linked offer, you will be asked to submit the PAN for the Mastercard card you will be using to take advantage of the cash back, dining offers.
You can partake in coupon-based (digital and printable) in-store and online show and save offers free of providing your PAN.
You can add a card or un-link a card by visiting your 'Account' at local.mastercard.com and scrolling to 'Linked card(s)'.
IMPORTANT: Once removed, you will no longer receive statement credits on eligible transactions for cash back, dining offers.
These email notifications are to inform you that your card was unenrolled from the Mastercard Local program on a specific date.
As a result, future purchases made with this card will no longer be eligible to earn the card-linked, cash back dining offers while your card is enrolled in another, similar program. Despite this action taken, you can still take advantage of the Show and Save digital and printed coupon offers available.
If this was unexpected and you would like to continue earning cash back in the Mastercard Local program, you can choose to opt back in at any time by visiting your 'Account' at local.mastercard.com and re-linking your card.
Please note that if you choose to opt back in, you will be subsequently removed from the other program that initially caused unenrollment. Participation is limited to one program.
For more details, please refer to the program Terms of Use. If you have further questions, please visit Customer Support on the program website.

In some rare cases, a merchant may not honor your discount. Examples are:

Certain offers have expiration dates or are designated as "single-use" meaning they can only be redeemed once and cannot be shared. If you encounter this notification:
- Offer Terms: Review the individual discount's offer terms for specific details and limitations. This can be found on an offer's detail page.
- Single-Use Offers: Once redeemed, a single-use offer cannot be used again by you or shared within a calendar year. Offer details will display a message: "You have reached the limit of available redemptions for this offer". You can refresh the offer when the time-period resets.
- Expired Offers: Certain offers will expire based on the Merchant's program participation agreement. If an offer is expired, it will be updated as such on the offer details.
To make a qualifying transaction, you must make a purchase at a participating merchant using your eligible Mastercard credit, debit or prepaid card. Your account must be in good standing at the time of purchase to be eligible to receive your immediate discount or statement credit. Once an eligible transaction is made you will receive cash back in the form of a statement credit or a discount at the point of sale, depending on the offer type described above.
Statement credits only apply to credit card transactions, and signature-based debit and prepaid card transactions (where you sign a receipt) – therefore PIN-based debit and prepaid card transactions (where you enter your PIN at checkout) are not eligible. Please contact your issuing local bank or credit union with any questions about qualifying transactions.
Some offers may be subject to certain terms and conditions and may change at any time without giving notice to Cardholders. The program Terms of Use and offer terms are provided on local.mastercard.com.
Mastercard will not be liable for any loss or damage incurred because of any interaction between the Cardholder and a merchant with respect to this promotion. Except as set forth herein, all matters, including but not limited to delivery of goods and services, returns, and warranties are solely and strictly between the Cardholder and the applicable merchants. Cardholders acknowledge that Mastercard does not endorse or warrant the merchants that are accessible through the Mastercard Local site nor the offers that they provide.
Purchases submitted by an enrolled Cardholder, or the merchant through third-party payment accounts, mobile or wireless card readers, online or mobile digital wallets, or similar technology may not qualify if the technology is not set up to process the purchase in a way that specifically identifies the enrolled merchant. Other restrictions may apply based on the local bank or credit union's individual terms and conditions.
The statement credit is processed automatically if you and an eligible Cardholder has followed the terms and conditions of the offer. Each statement credit will include an identifier such as "Mastercard Local Reward" in the description of your card statement. Statement credits can take up to two billing cycles to post, though they typically post within five business days. Posting timeline varies by issuing bank or credit union.
Your account must be open and in good standing at the time of purchase to receive the statement credit. The statement credit will be awarded to the primary account holder (as determined by the Mastercard account records) on the account accessed by the eligible Mastercard card used to make the qualifying purchase.
The statement credit cannot be returned or exchanged for cash and is non-transferable. Missing statement credits or customer service issues should be communicated via Customer Support on the program website.
This communication must happen within 30 days of the transaction date. Mastercard, nor participating local banks and credit unions, are responsible for other offers, decisions and/or actions of individual merchants.
You can opt-out of the program by visiting your 'Account' at local.mastercard.com and scroll to 'Close account'. This will delete your account and all your data. This is not the same as unlinking your card, which only removes your ability to participate in the cash back, dining offers. (See FAQ 4. for more details.)
IMPORTANT: This opt-out action cannot be undone.
Visit local.mastercard.com for additional help or contact the local bank or credit union that issued your enrolled Mastercard card.
